Abstract

Introduction: Humanized health care is essential, especially in neonatology, secondary to added vulnerability of the neonate. Patient centered model of care enables the care to be directed towards the neonate, who is cared. Nonetheless, health professionals are intrinsically constituted by values and moral questions which influence this care in practice. It is important to investigate the relations between the moral foundations and patient centered care and build issues towards a care of quality in neonatology. Objective: To analyze the relation between the moral foundations and patient centered care in neonatology. Methods: An observational and cross sectional study that will apply a self answered questionnaire to health professionals who work in the rooming in and delivery room, at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Carlos. The Moral Foundations Questionnaire and the Care in Dialog Questionnaire will be applied. Descriptive statistics with median, interquartile range and frequencies will be performed. The comparisons between frequencies will be tested by chi-squared test and between medians by Mann Whitney test. The relation between the questionnaires' answers will be analyzed by Spearman correlation. The data analysis will be performed using the Stata 18.0, considering p < 0.05. Expected results: It is expected to contribute with scientific knowledge, with results that can incite reflections about the intrinsic health professionals' characteristics that can influence health care and so, offer a care of quality to neonates.
