Abstract

Introduction: With the aging process, changes occur in the elderly's body, especially changes in functionality. There are factors that contribute to the risk of hospitalization, such as age, sex, presence of a caregiver, presence of heart disease, presence of diabetes mellitus, self-perception of health status, number of overnight hospital stays, and number of medical visits in the last 12 months. Objective: To determine the risk of hospitalization and its associated factors in elderly people attending a Health Reference Unit for the Elderly in the city of São Paulo. Method: Quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study to be carried out in a Health Reference Unit for the Elderly in the city of São Paulo with 289 elderly people. The study participants are people aged 60 years or older, of both sexes, and active in the reference unit. An interview lasting approximately 20 minutes will be conducted and the following instruments will be used: Sociodemographic information, anthropometric measurements, chronic diseases, polypharmacy, 10-point Cognitive Screener, falls in the last 12 months and Probability of Repeated Admission. A descriptive and analytical analysis will be performed using logistic regression with the probability of hospitalization as the dependent variable; statistical tests will have a significance of p less than or equal to 0.05. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the School of Public Health and the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo.
