Abstract

This project proposes the use of different geological modeling methods, with an emphasis in the data integration, for the generation of the geological model, honoring the main heterogeneities. One of the main challenges of pre-salt exploration is related to the high geological complexity (Cazarin et al. 2016). In this case, it is possible to define as main heterogeneities: 1) distinct geological environment without analogous in recent; 2) influence of karst structures; 3) structural features related to the basin evolution; 4) heterogeneity of the porous medium common to carbonatic rocks. There are various types of measured data specific to the reservoir, such as conventional core rock, well logs, 3D seismic, well testing, and hydrocarbon production. These data measure the reservoir at different scales. For example, well log data can provide centimeter-to-meter scale resolution, while seismic data are at comparatively lower resolution and provide larger-scale stratigraphic and structural information. These different data types need to be incorporated into the geological model at their correct scales. With this, the main challenge lies in integrating all the data, from different scales and information density, generated by other members of the research group. To achieve this, the information will be integrated through the application of geostatistical methods (Soete et al. 2017, Guardiano and Srivastava 1993) and machine learning (Kuroda et al. 2016).This research project aims to study the geological characteristics associated with the carbonate reservoirs of the Brazilian pre-salt. The ultimate goal will be to generate geological models, depicting the main geological heterogeneities, and conducting uncertainty analysis for key variables affecting flow behavior. To achieve this, a database from a Brazilian pre-salt reservoir, Fm. Barra Velha, will be utilized.
