Abstract

The proposed research will investigate podcasts about politics in Brazil, tracing the correspond-ences between the sociographic profile of podcasters, strategies for viability and financial mainte-nance, and formats, content and strategies used to support audience engagement. The context in which this research will be conducted is marked by disputes between 'visions of Brazil' linked to distinct position taking in the contemporary political spectrum. By observing how podcasting is organized in Brazil through a sociography of producers, we aim to illustrate how social and political relations are constructed on the media backstage, as well as to identify strategies employed for circulating ideological formations intrinsic to those positions in the political fields. Podcasting is consolidating as another space for spreading a range of voices, diverse, and due to its technological characteristics, it offers broad biding potential. Just like the sound of radio, podcasting promotes a sense of intimacy and allows listeners to immerse themselves into the narratives. Moreover, the mobility and the easy access to contents makes listening to podcasts a daily practice that carries the values of contemporary mediatised consumption. It is thus also relevant to describe how this content is produced, which blends into the everyday experience of listeners promoting their iden-tification and engagement - every so often militant. Therefore, using Multiple Correspondence Analysis, we aim to depict how the treatment of information and of contents align with how the producers' take positions in the public sphere. We also expect that this investigation will indicate new modes for categorising/classify podcasts about politics, which will allow further critical studies on the recurrency of strategies, formats and themes.
