Abstract

Lead-based halide perovskites have shown great promise for optoelectronic applications, but their potential toxicity and instability raise concerns. As a solution, lead-free double perovskites have emerged as an alternative family of materials. However, their stability and scalability remain significant challenges. Researchers are exploring ways to modify their crystal structure and improve their processing techniques to overcome these issues. Furthermore, studying the local order of lead-free double perovskites through pair distribution function (PDF) analysis and other characterization techniques can provide insight into their atomic arrangement and bonding. These insights can help optimize their electronic properties and improve their device performance and stability. This article discusses the challenges in developing lead-free double perovskites and the potential of exploiting their local order through PDF analysis and other characterization techniques for optoelectronic applications.
