Abstract

The general aim of this project is to carry out research into the work of Frantz Fanon, focusing on the discussions raised by the author in "Black Skin, White Masks" from 1952. We want to understand the phenomenological and ontological discussion presented in this book, with a view to understanding three fundamental concepts presented there by Fanon: sociogenesis, being-for-the-other, the phenomenon of language and their articulation with the notion of the zone of non-being. The idea of the zone of non-being is very important for this research, as it is presented in the first place in this work, so we want to identify the criticism that Fanon postulates in relation to the process of "supposed" existence and recognition of the colonized. As a result, we aim to investigate how the relationship with being-for-the-other in colonized society produces an enclosure of the "black person" in the zone of non-being articulated by the relationship between society and language. With this in mind, we are interested in discussing the author's thinking in relation to the general area of philosophy, but with specific points of debate that guide the themes of identity, language, colonization, recognition and subjectivity; in this way, we will also want to support our argument in the thematic fields that the author dialogues with: phenomenology, sociology, psychology and psychoanalysis. Thus, by explaining the philosophical movements present in Fanon's text, we aim to situate the colonial prejudices in the subjectivity of the colonized. However, the context of production is the few works that have focused on Fanon's work in the field of philosophy, and the scarcity of works on the author at UFSCAR and in Brazil, which makes the project innovative.
