Abstract

Recognizing the massive use of virtual technologies (convergent, mobile and interconnected) and the centrality of media in the lives of contemporary children, the purpose of this project is to investigate theoretical elements related to the production and provision of quality cultural media content aimed at children, especially in the field of fiction. The main purpose is to collect recent national and international academic production focused on the study of curation, analysis and criticism of audiovisual production for children, which is somewhat fragmented today, aiming to understand, in more depth, the guidelines theoretical, problematic and types of research undertaken. The expectation is that the intended systematization, which will be examined from a Vygotskian perspective, will bring elements for the identification of principles that must be met for this production to qualify. It is also expected that the results of the investigation will not only fill an important gap in the studies that have been carried out on the supply and consumption of audiovisual content aimed at children (particularly in the field of education), but also support the formulation of actions in terms of public policies (with regard to the work of promoting, encouraging, training and disseminating quality children's content) and media education. This project is based on the perspective pointed out by David Buckingham: "in the new media environment, education should not be limited to giving us the conditions to understand and deal with what already exists. It should also encourage us to explore alternatives and demand change." (BUCKINGHAM, 2022, p. 128). The proposal is that the research will be carried out at the Center for Communication and Society Studies at the University of Minho, the main research unit in the field of Communication Sciences in Portugal (and one of the most prominent in Europe), at the invitation of Sara Pereira, reference in this field on the international scene.
