Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, in 2020, there were 287,000 maternal deaths, with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) accounting for 27% and the leading cause of maternal mortality globally. PPH is defined as a blood loss of 500mL after normal delivery and 1000mL after cesarean section. The first "Global Summit on Postpartum Haemorrhage" concluded that there was a need for objective measurement of postpartum blood loss to improve the detection and treatment of PPH in women who had vaginal delivery and the need for a standardized and timely approach to the management of PPH. The approach to PPH depends on the clinical condition of each patient, but early identification is crucial to prevent the condition from becoming severe and worsening. The E MOTIVE protocol consists of early detection criteria, triggering of a set of treatments and implementation strategies. In Brazil, from January 2021 to May 2023, a total of 6,523 cases of hospitalization due to PPH were found, with the Southeast being the most affected region. Therefore, immediate identification of patients at risk of PPH, routine active management of the third stage of labor, rapid assessment of blood loss, adequate monitoring of the patient, and management of postpartum hemorrhage are important. Objective: To analyze the occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage, its associated aspects, and procedures performed. Material and Method: The data used in this research were collected by nurses at the Children's Hospital and Maternity (HCM) responsible for controlling PPH. Using the instrument provided by the HCM team, it will be possible to collect data on each patient's PPH. Subsequently, socioeconomic information will be collected from the medical records.
