Abstract

Fine chemicals are essential high-value compounds produced in small quantities and involve complex structures, making their environmentally friendly synthesis a top priority. Catalysts play a critical role in achieving efficient and selective chemical transformations, with a growing interest in heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis due to their greater stability and reusability compared to homogeneous catalysts. The successful development of chiral heterogeneous catalysts will significantly impact fine chemical synthesis, providing environmentally benign and economically viable solutions. This project focuses on the development of chiral carbon nitrides as (photo)catalysts for fine chemical synthesis. Initially focusing on developing a reliable synthetic approach for obtaining these chiral carbon nitrides, using pre- and post-synthetic approaches. Catalytic testing will initially target reactions for quinoline derivatives synthesis. The project also aims to explore the chiral properties of the catalysts and their application in reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation and hydration of alkenes towards chiral alcohols.
