Abstract

This project investigates the impact of agroecological practices on the collective organization of youth in the Settlement PDS Sepé Tiaraju, located in the municipality of Serrana, SP, Brazil. Emerged within the context of agrarian reform and the rise of agribusiness, the settlement adopts agroecological principles as a response to environmental and social issues in the region. The research aims to historically trace the settlement's development, identify implemented agroecological practices, and characterize forms of collective organization among the young settlers. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentary analysis, the study seeks to understand how agroecology influences rural youth and contributes to their empowerment. Additionally, the project intends to discuss sustainability and succession in family farming, emphasizing the significance of agroecology as a social and ecological practice that integrates traditional and scientific knowledge. The research is relevant for highlighting agroecology as an alternative to the hegemonic agribusiness model, promoting a more sustainable and inclusive agriculture.
