Abstract

Introduction: Given the increase in the elderly population, the highest occurrence of falls is denoted. In this context, explore the risk factors involved with the fall, such as postural balance (PB) is important. The functioning of the autonomic nervous system, the muscular condition and levels of sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity have relationships with the PB. However, considering that the individual is susceptible to state of fatigue while carrying out routine activities, it is necessary investigate relationships between these variables and PB in similar conditions. Objective: to analyze the relationship of heart rate variability (HRV), muscle mass and strength indices, SB levels and physical activity with the PB of elderly women in fatigue condition self-reported (FSR) induced by a functional test [6-minute step test (6ST)]. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study that will evaluate elderly women with age equal to or greater than 60 years. The study will be carried out in 3 stages: I) characterization of the sample, assessment of muscle strength through digital dynamometry (knee extension) and manual, familiarization with PB assessment procedures and assessment of levels of SB and physical activity using an accelerometer (7 days); II) evaluation of the body composition using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry; III) evaluation autonomic nervous system using HRV and PB assessment with the force platform in 2 moments: rest and in the FRS state (immediately after 6ST). The relationships between the variables and the absolute variations of the PB will be performed using the Pearson correlation test or Spearman according to normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov). For significant relationships unadjusted and adjusted linear regression (age, mass index body and use of beta-blocker medication). A value of p<0.05 will be used.
