Abstract

In the one-and-a-half-month internship, the student will learn how to isolate, identify, and determine antimicrobial susceptibility from foodborne bacteria. Resistant and susceptible bacteria will be isolated and their resistance will be characterized by microbiological methods. Then, analyses of the metabolic composition of selected susceptible and resistant bacteria will be used in the presence and absence of antimicrobials. This will allow the student to learn about some microbiological techniques and follow the activities of the HSP Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. She will monitor sample preparation techniques, liquid and gas chromatographic analysis together with mass spectrometry and data processing aimed at metabolomic analysis. (AU)
