Abstract

This project intends to realize a comparative and interpretative analysis of the short story "Uma galinha", by Clarice Lispector, and its French translation "Une poule", by Jacques and Teresa Thiériot. We aim to interpret the original short story by analyzing the narrator's position and the procedures he uses to construct a tension between the family, as identity, and the animal, as otherness. Thus, bearing in mind the work of Antoine Berman (1995); Derrida (2002 [1987]); about translation as a new manifestation of the original, the comparison with the translated version will reveal the methods used by the translators to create the tension between identity and otherness, and will identify the changes in the narrator's position that the translation choices reflect in the text.
