Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease, autoimmune, systemic and multifactorial etiology. Features a wide variety ofmanifestations that reflect the involvement of several organs, including the liver.Patients with SLE may present with changes in liver enzymes associated withexacerbation of the disease, viral infections, side effects ofmedications, alcohol use, autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), among othersconditions. Some of the chronic liver diseases in patients with SLE may beinitially asymptomatic, but can evolve with the appearance of severalsymptoms and even lead to a worsening of the prognosis. Therefore, it is indicatedmonitoring liver conditions in patients with SLE and, in the face ofenzymatic changes, research into possible etiologies for thetreatment of these patients. The main way to detect liver changes in patients withlupus is through the dosages of hepatic and canalicular enzymes, includingalanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), phosphatasealkaline (FA) and gammaglutamyl transferase (GGT). In this way, the present workaims to evaluate the most frequent etiologies of enzyme changeshepatic and canalicular in patients with SLE being followed up in theRheumatology at the University Hospital, Hospital São Paulo.
