Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a syndrome caused by a right or left ventricular disfunction, that can affect only one or both sides of the heart. Decrease on the cardiac output, pulmonary hypertension, hepatomegaly, swollen legs and progressive dyspnea are some of the many symptoms that can happen, and the systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is one of the most important risk factor to develop HF. The left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH)is a compensatory mechanism, characterized by structural changes in the heart. Studies have demonstrated that treating SAH prematurely and properly can avoid the LVH and for its tracking and search, the magnetic resonance is the gold standard, but echocardiography method is the the most accessible for great part of the population. The heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) represents approximately 50% of all the HF cases and can evolve to a decompensation of ejection intermediary and ventricular hypertrophy. Once it is commonly underdiagnosed, to prevent LVH it is important to collect the clinical history, such as exams and evaluations. This study aims to retrospectively evaluate the medical records of patients with SAH who present LVH, with a possible diagnosis of HFpEF and to analise the correlation with several comorbidities, cardiovascular death rate along time, functional capacity loss and the occurence of cerebrovascular events.
