Abstract

The interaction between political and economic actors and changes in the global economy reflect changes in domestic policies and geopolitical strategies in international chess. China's economic and political growth has stimulated debate about the Asian government's strategies for guaranteeing its national interests and competing internationally along non-liberal lines. In view of this, new theoretical concepts have been mobilized to understand the strategies of the Chinese state in this process of China's global expansion. Among them, a new literature on "economic statecraft" (ES) - or economic intervention diplomacy - has gained prominence on the frontiers of International Relations, International Economic Law and Public Policy. This Scientific Initiation research, in the context of the research project "National policies as guidelines for foreign investment: an analysis of regulations for Brazil-China economic relations", coordinated by Prof. Michelle Ratton Sanchez Badin (under proposal for Regular Research Grant FAPESP 2024/09358-0), thus proposes to carry out a bibliographical review of the recent literature on "economic statecraft", with a view to understanding the legal and non-legal instruments mobilized by these policies.
