Abstract

Background: Fecal (FI) and anal (AI) incontinence significantly impact the quality of life, affecting millions worldwide. Understanding the multifaceted nature of these conditions is crucial for comprehensive assessment and effective management. Objectives: The study has two main objectives: 1. Conduct a comprehensive review of existing assessment tools for FI and AI, analyzing their characteristics, target populations, objectives, and domains; 2. Create a questionnaire for anal incontinence assessment, incorporating emotional and physical aspects. Methods: For objective 1, a scoping review will employ Arksey and O'Malley's methodology, screening studies published in English or Portuguese (Arksey e O'Malley, 2005). Objective 2, involves creating and validating a questionnaire with a multidisciplinary team. The sample will include women over 18 years with anal incontinence. For construct validity analysis, another questionnaire Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life (FIQL) will be administered, and the Spearman correlation coefficient will be calculated. To assess the internal consistency of the scale, Cronbach's alpha will be calculated. For reliability analysis, the intraclass correlation coefficients ICC (2,1) and ICC (3,1) will be calculated for intra-rater reliability. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) will be conducted for the validation and improvement of the construct's structure.
