Abstract

Rice is one of the most produced cereals in the world, serving as the main source of calories for a large portion of the global population. Due to this, rice has become synonymous with food security for various countries worldwide. The global population is expected to grow by 30% by 2050, making it necessary to intensify rice production to meet the growing demand. However, the impact of climate change on the rice production sector presents a challenge that must be overcome to ensure that production can meet global demand. In Brazil, rice is one of the main staples in the diet of Brazilians, being cultivated in upland and irrigated fields across two productive regions. Due to its importance for Brazilian food security, it is essential to understand climate changes in these productive regions, as well as how rice production will be affected by climate change, to ensure the grain's supply in the country. The main objective of this project is to generate climate change impact scenarios for upland and irrigated rice cultivation systems in Brazil, using a climatic upscaling approach and crop modeling to represent Brazilian rice-growing regions. Additionally, the project aims to identify climate changes in Brazil's rice-producing regions.
