Abstract

This is a proposal for a Research Internship at Centre des Savoirs sur le Politique - Recherches et Analyses (CESPRA). The Internship is part of an Undergraduate Research that aims to understand the innovation that Paine and Robespierre made regarding the concept of democracy. Part of this innovation is the transformation from direct democracy to representative democracy. We base our work on Hobson, who claims that both thinkers used Sieyès' concept of representation as a basis for their innovations (Hobson, 2008, p. 453). Because of that, we propose to deepen our understanding of Sieyès' idea of representation and its relation to sovereignty during the Research Internship. It will take place at a renowned center for the study of politics, under the supervision of a researcher who has experience in similar topics, and it will allow us access to international bibliography about our object of research.
