Abstract

Binge eating (BE) poses a challenge in the management and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as evidenced by numerous studies. The most prevalent eating disorder in this population is Binge Eating Disorder (BED). The Binge Eating Scale (BES) assesses the presence and severity of BE. The scale has been applied in various countries and has also been adapted into Brazilian Portuguese, where it is referred to as the Escala de Compulsão Alimentar Periódica (ECAP), demonstrating validity evidence. The aim of the present study is to assess the psychometric properties of the ECAP in Brazilian women with T2DM. This study will use data collected from 203 participants in the previous project (CAE: 56464422.3.0000.5440), with a request for a waiver of the Informed Consent Form (ICF) submitted to the Ethics Committee of the University of São Paulo, and an expansion of the sample to include an additional 277 participants (n = 480). The psychometric analyses will be divided into two groups: Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) (n = 160), using the Robust Diagonally Weighted Least Squares (RDWLS) extraction method, factor retention through Parallel Analysis, and the Robust Promin rotation method, with factor stability assessed using the H index (values above 0.80). Items with factor loadings below 0.35 will be excluded. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (n = 320) will be conducted using the RDWLS method and the following fit indices: ¿², ¿²/df, Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), and Standardized Root Mean Residual (SRMR). Reliability will be assessed using Cronbach's alpha (¿) and McDonald's omega (¿). Convergent validity will be evaluated by correlating the ECAP with the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-R21), using Pearson's correlation coefficient.
