Abstract

The paleoenvironment of sedimentary deposits, the depositional environment influenced byphysical, chemical, and biological processes until rock formation, is one of the main issuesinvolving paleontology since its inception. Taphonomy combined with ecological analyses, through guilds, can be useful tools for defining a depositional environment. The Parecis Basinis an intracratonic basin located in the states of Mato Grosso and Rondônia, between theSolimões, Alto Tapajós, and Paraná basins and its Devonian deposits have been little trained, mainly taking into account their taphonomic aspects. Thus, the objective of this work is toperform paleoenvironmental inferences, trying to define the depositional environment offossil samples from the Devonian of the Parecis Basin through biostratinomic, facies, andecological analyses. The material was collected near the city of Paranatinga, Mato Grosso, and comprises mostly marine invertebrate fossils, including conularians, trilobites, brachiopods (discinids, lingulids and spiriferids), gastropods, bivalves, tentaculites andpossible eurypterids, crinoids and bryozoans, spread across 3 different deposition sites in thelithostratigraphic profile. The following will be performed: collection of biostratinomic data, classification of fossils into paleoecological guilds, data treatment using multivariate analysisand alpha and beta biodiversity tests, and comparison with the required literature.
