Abstract

In this project, we intend to explore the application of recurrence-based methods for climate data, specifically focusing on detecting relevant conditions and parameters associated with tipping points and extreme events mainly driven by climate change. By integrating insights from nonlinear dynamics with machine learning techniques, we aim to uncover hidden patterns and dynamical anomalies within climate systems, using both simulation and real-world data. Although the methodology has been partially developed and successfully applied in diverse contexts, this internship would significantly enhance its applicability by refining tools for tracking and predicting critical transitions within climate studies. This advancement could provide a suitable framework for identifying early warning signals, thereby supporting efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and better understand the mechanisms underlying extreme events.
