Abstract

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a non-invasive technique that records the magnetic fields generated by the brain's electrical activity. Because these magnetic fields are extremely weak, highly sensitive sensors, such as SQUIDs are used, which are based on the principles of superconductivity and operate at liquid helium temperatures. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio in MCG, magnetically shielded rooms are utilized. As a result, all these factors contribute to the high cost and limited accessibility of this technique.In recent years, a new technology has been developed: optically pumped magnetometer (OPMs) sensors, which can replace SQUIDs. These sensors operate at room temperature and can be used in magnetic shields the size of a person, making the magnetocardiography technique more accessible. OPMs and the MCG technique are technologies that are contributing to the field of biomagnetism.The project in question aims to understand the MEG and OPM systems and collect exploratory measurements in adult individuals when afferent magnetic stimuli are applied to the lower limbs.
