Abstract

This project proposes an investigation into suicides in the city of São Paulo between 1910 and 1940, based on the analysis of the documentary collection "Police Medical Assistance Occurrence Reports," located in the Public Security section of the São Paulo State Archive. The research aims to understand how the rapid urban growth, critical moments in the city's history, and the modernization process influenced suicide patterns within the proposed timeframe. Among the main objectives, the analysis of the relationship between voluntary death and urbanization stands out, as well as the identification and interpretation of the spatial and social patterns of suicide. To achieve this, we will explore the potential of geotechnologies applied to historical research. Our focus will be on utilizing the Pauliceia 2.0 portal, a collaborative mapping project of São Paulo's history, funded by FAPESP and coordinated by Professor Dr. Luis Antônio Coelho Ferla. In this way, the present project is linked to and aims to contribute to the development of the Pauliceia 2.0 project.
