Abstract

The peanut crop holds a prominent position in Brazilian agriculture, being widely cultivated across various regions of the country. However, agricultural mechanization, while boosting peanut production, is one of the main practices that can lead to environmental impacts, particularly in relation to CO2 storage in the soil and its emission into the atmosphere. To mitigate environmental degradation, it is necessary to assess how different types of soil preparation affect soil preservation, as well as how fuel consumption influences carbon emissions. The aim of this project is to evaluate CO2 emissions, soil temperature, and soil moisture across three types of tillage treatments: conventional tillage, involving one plowing and two harrowing operations; reduced tillage using a chisel plow; and reduced tillage using a rotary hoe. The experimental design will follow the principles of Statistical Process Control, with data collected over time in bands. The expected outcomes include determining the functional relationship between soil CO2 emissions in various tillage systems for peanut cultivation and the CO2 emissions from fuel consumption during these operations. The results are anticipated to inform the selection of the most effective soil preparation method for peanut crops, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, these findings could be extrapolated to soil preparation practices for other root crops, contributing to the strategic planning of agriculture, enhancing farmer income, and optimizing resource use.
