Abstract

Introduction: The Measure of Activity Performance of the Hand (MAP-Hand) is an 18-item patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) developed and validated in Norway to assess hand function during activity performance in people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is known that RA is a chronic systemic disease characterised by synovial inflammation and destruction of bone and cartilage, usually affecting the joints of the hand. Thus, RA causes decreased grip strength and joint mobility, pain and deformities in the hand, leading to limited ability to perform activities of daily living. In order to be used in other countries, in addition to translation, the test also needs to be cross-culturally adapted. Objective: To carry out a study of the measurement properties of the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of MAP-Hand into Brazilian Portuguese. Method: The tool will be translated by a group of specialists, and for the cross-cultural adaptation phase, we will recruit volunteers aged between 18 and 80 who are followed up at the rheumatology outpatient clinic, by means of a consent form and a sociodemographic questionnaire, after which the volunteer will take part in focus groups and cognitive interviews according to the versions of the assessments, and thus develop adequate understanding, idiomatic and semantic equivalence of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the MAP-Hand. Expected results: It is hoped that the MAP-Hand Br will be able to resolve the semantic discrepancies, idiomatic, experiential and conceptual equivalences involved in the translation and cross-cultural adaptation process, in order to be understood by the Brazilian population and used as an assessment tool by clinicians.
