Abstract

Introduction: Rotator cuff-related shoulder pain is a common and disabling condition, with a high prevalence in primary care and high costs for the health system and patients. Recovery rates are low, and traditional rehabilitation focused on the biomedical approach has shown limited results. Pain Neuroscience Education emerges as a promising and low-cost alternative for the management of rotator cuff related shoulder pain. Objective: This study aims to translate and adapt the material "Educación en Neurociencia del Dolor - Una Nueva Visión", developed by the group of the Active Pain Coping Strategies Unit in Primary Care of Valladolid (Spain), into Portuguese, and adapt it for use in the management of individuals with chronic rotator cuff-related shoulder pain. Methods: The material will be translated from Spanish into Portuguese by an undergraduate student in physical therapy. After translation, the terms will be reviewed and standardized in conjunction with other team members to ensure clarity, and a technical team will be hired to review the spelling. The translated version will be applied to two individuals with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain, through slide presentations and delivery of printed material. After two weeks, these individuals will be contacted to provide feedback on their understanding of the printed material and suggestions for adjustments. Expected results: We hope that the translated material can be used in public health services in the management of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, and also in other countries where the official language is Portuguese.
