Abstract

Good oxidation resistance at high temperatures is a fundamental feature that a structural material must present for structural applications at high temperatures. Recent investigations carried out by our research group have shown the beneficial effect of replacing Ti for Nb terms of oxidation in Ni-based superalloys. In the present proposal, we also intend to evaluate the effect of this replacement on the oxidation of oxidation of the VAT80A superalloy (alloy 80A / UN07080), a work in partnership with Villares Metals. Experiments will be performed by exposure of samples to air at temperatures of 700 and 800o C for approximately 1000 h. From the oxidation experiments it will be performed microstructural characterizations and data processing (mass variation; XRD, MEV (BSE/SE)), for evaluation of the oxidation behavior of the different alloys and comparing them.
