Abstract

This project aims to implement a computational code for simulating compressible flows in the RAE 2822 airfoil, widely used in studies of transonic and supersonic regimes. The profile is of great importance in the aeronautical sector, where understanding its aerodynamic behavior at high speeds is essential for the development of more efficient aircraft. In other words, the project is based on the development of a CFD code, with an emphasis on compressible flows and their influence on the selected profile. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become an indispensable tool in aeronautical engineering, enabling precise and enriching analyses that would, in many cases, be unfeasible using experimental methods. One of the main objectives of CFD is to simulate the operation of a wind tunnel, enabling, for example, studies of supersonic and transonic flows in a practical way. By developing a programming routine using a high-level language, this project also contributes to the mastery of numerical and computational methodologies, offering great flexibility to explore specific parameters and validate results with experimental data available in the technical literature, in addition to contributing a powerful algorithm for other researchers in the field.
