Abstract

This doctoral project proposes to conduct an ethnography of three independent Brazilian publishers specializing in the publication of indigenous, Afro-Brazilian, and women's literature. The aim is to examine how the engagement of these independent national publishers occurs in relation to the circulation of marginal literatures and the disputes within the editorial field. Specifically, it plans to investigate the editorial policies and catalogs of the publishers, highlighting the various aesthetics represented. The participation of historically marginalized writers in the independent literary scene and the alliances formed in this process will also be examined. Additionally, the role of national literary fairs in the circulation of marginal literature and the creation of alternative cultural circuits will be observed. By exploring the tensions within the editorial field and situating these writers in their contexts of discourse, the research aims to advance a reflection on editorial practices that are conceived as movements of reclaiming identity and the socio-cultural experiences of marginalized groups. Keywords: Ethnography; Independent publishing, literature, engagements.
