Abstract

The present project is proposed to be completed in one year at the University of A Coruña (UDC), focusing in the experimental study of gas-liquid phase-change phenomena. The student will be in contact with experienced researchers in this area to improve and complement the numerical simulations that has been developed in his group at EESC-USP, not to mention the contribution for the research groups at UDC and EESC.The main aims are to collect experimental data with the apparatus available in UDC, in order to study the pool boiling process of HFE7100 and FC-72 refrigerant and the impact of the surface treatment on this process, as well as analyze single bubbles' nucleation process and its thermal boundary layer. As many recent works show, the surface treatment and the methods used to do it have great influence in the heat transferred in the pool boiling process, being of a great importance to study these phenomena. In the proposed stay it is intended to determine the pool boiling curves and the frequencies related to the multiphase pool boiling structures, as well as to perform a characterization of single bubbles features. All these works will be done with the help of the SISTER laboratory, as the structure given by the UDC university. Furthermore, with the experimental data obtained during the BEPE, it will be possible to compare the numerical results given by the Lattice Boltzmann method, analyzing how the method can be improved to provide better and correct results. The analysis of the experimental data will be performed based on previous methodologies developed by the own student, conferring more agility to the process.
