Abstract

Psychotropic drugs are highly consumed medications worldwide, including benzodiazepine (BZD) anxiolytics, such as Diazepam. BZDs may be associated with the occurrence of several adverse reactions, including the development of Acute Closed Angle Glaucoma, through the potentiation of the gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) effect, which influences the pupillary sphincter and determines the narrowing of the iridocorneal angle, and other adverse ocular reactions. This study aims to characterize eye diseases associated with the use of Diazepam, evaluating their incidence, etiology and severity, in order to raise awareness among health professionals and the general population about the risks to vision associated to the use of this medication. An observational, ecological study will be conducted using the CVS-SP pharmacovigilance database (PeriWeb) for quantitative and qualitative analysis of safety incident notifications carried out from 2013 to 2023. The Odds Ratio (OR) will be calculated to check non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors for the occurrence of ocular adverse events.
