Abstract

The main objective of this work is to analyze the demands of the youth from the outskirts of the State of São Paulo based on the lyrics of songs from the musical genre called Funk. Thus, based on the interpretation of five compositions by three different MCs and a duo of MCs (Felipe Boladão, Mc Hariel, Mc Dricka and Irmãs de Pau) based on the methodology of the analytical study of the poem, proposed by Antonio Candido (2006), and on the concept of structure of feeling developed by Raymond Williams (1979), the present analysis will focus on the agendas demanded by the young people who make up funk. The selection of singers was carried out based on intersectionality, a theoretical-critical tool proposed by Hill Collins (2022), which seeks to understand how the interrelations between oppressions are constituted in materiality, while the 20 songs were chosen based on the primary themes of the project, such as economic scarcity, racial prejudice and the gender dimension. In this sense, the artistic and biographical trajectories of the selected MCs will provide us with an overview of the desires and dreams of the youth of São Paulo's outskirts, as expressed by this artistic movement.
