The Capitoline Triade in the artifacts: between art and archeology

Abstract

The Capitoline Triade is composed by Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Is belived that the cults origins came from the etruscans, that embraced italic deities. There is not an especific festivity dedicated to the Capitoline Triade in the roman calendar. That sugests that the cult was posterior to the creation of the calendars festivities, because such important deities werent contempladed. The analises of diverse arctifacts, such as coins, statues, busts, relief and icons will allow to observe diferent archelogical contexts, revealing a bunch of diferent meanings to each piece. The sampling is composed by 18 arctifacts, dating from II BCE to III ACE and localized, mainly, in central Italy - sampling contains 2 objects from Germany, that will serve as comparison. The sampling will be divided in two big groups: religious arctifacts and monatery arctifacts. An iconographic analises will persue, allowing the data crossing of both groups and a deepening on the various meanings the Capitoline Triade had over the period of time in question.
