Abstract

Associated with Scientific Initiation Process N. 2024/17488-0, Interest Groups in Brazil: Internal Organization, Strategies of Action and Political Influence, this project aims to expand understanding of the internal configuration and political action tactics of Brazilian interest groups with a national scope. Although these actors are fundamental to the functioning of contemporary democracies, systematic studies on their activities in countries of the Global South are still incipient (Rozbicka; Mahrenbach, 2022). Based on the previous mapping of these groups (Rozbicka; Mancuso; Santos, 2024), the research will analyze its internal dynamics and interest defense strategies through a survey structured along the lines of the Comparative Interest Group-survey Project (CIG-survey Project). In order to strengthen the analysis of the data collected and improve the theoretical basis of the research, this project applies for a research internship of approximately five weeks, between May and June 2025, at Aston University, under the supervision of Professor Patrycja Rozbicka, a reference in the study of interest representation systems. During the internship, the data collected will be analyzed, enabling a comparative approach that will connect Brazil to international debates on the topic and strengthen academic partnerships between the University of São Paulo and Aston University.
