Abstract In this scientific initiation project, the student will be introduced to two concepts that were considered unrelated until recently, as well as the recent discovery of their equivalence. These concepts are: asymptotic symmetries and the memory effect. This study will be guided by the newly published notes of Professor Strominger~\cite{strominger}, which aim to demonstrate the equivalence between three effects: the soft theorem, asymptotic symmetries, and the memory effect, thereby establishing the so-called infrared triangle.Initially, we intend to thoroughly understand the so-called asymptotic symmetries of supertranslation-which generalizes usual translations-and the famous memory effect - which leaves a "trace" of the passage of a gravitational wave. Subsequently, with the aid of Ref.~\cite{strominger}, we will understand how these two concepts are related through a phenomenon known as vacuum transition. | |
