Abstract

The superradiant scattering of oscillatory modes impinging on a rotating body is phenomenon known for many decades. Its treatmeant began in the early 1970's from Zel'dovich's works that demonstrated the theoretical possibility of amplification of electromagnetic waves due to the extraction of rotational energy from a conductive cylinder capable of absorbing energy. Superradiant scattering can also manifest itself in compact objects resulting from gravitational collapses processes, such as black holes and stars. When there exist some confinement mechanism for superradiant modes, there can be the development of instabilities. A remarkable consequence of superradiant instabilities is the possibility of using compact objects as particle detectors. The majority of the scientific literature has focused on black holes superradiance. In this master's project, on the other hand, we will investigate the superradiance in relativistic stars, exploring potential applications in astrophysics, cosmology and particle physics.
