Abstract

To quantify the time needed for Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) to reach its maximum cooling capacity, the concept of Cooling Establishment Time (CET) was developed and tested in the city of Zurich (Switzerland). The candidate replicated in São Paulo the methods tested in Zurich, generating data for a different climatic and urban context. However, to reach the next goal of scaling up the number of case studies to further improve the definition of CET, finding ways to automate the process of BGI identification is key. The goal of the Research Internship Abroad (RIA) is to address this challenge by doing field research on the original case studies of Zurich where the CET method was first applied and, together with the authors of the original study, identify the most relevant factors for BGI identification, inclusion and exclusion. This process will be crucial for automating BGI identification in São Paulo and in other world climates, enabling a larger global BGI-CET dataset. Analyzing more BGI areas will help identify patterns and hypothesize causal relationships between BGI characteristics and CETs, advancing the goals of the Scientific Initiation (SI) project.
