Abstract

The international mobility research at the University of Granada (Spain) seeks to explore innovative techniques not used by the original group in Brazil, such as Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS). During the internship, machine learning algorithms will be applied for non-destructive quality control of barley. Spectroanalytical techniques, such as Raman, combined with multivariate machine learning algorithms, are promising in the food sector, as they can optimize processes, reduce costs and improve product quality. However, there are few studies on the application of Raman spectroscopy in barley control, making its application for recognition and authentication of brewing barley unprecedented. For the study, samples of brewing and forage barley grains from different regions were acquired. The spectra will be collected in the range of 350-2000 cm¿¹ using portable equipment. Spectral analysis will be performed using machine learning techniques, applying appropriate pre-processing and validating the models with external data. The results will contribute to the development of faster, more sustainable and efficient methods for quality control of brewing barley, benefiting the brewing industry by ensuring authenticity and preventing fraud.
