Abstract

Promoting an ecosystem of entrepreneurship and innovation linked to educational institutions and cutting-edge research centers with high investment from public and private sectors requires the development of strategic urban planning to promote not only economic and financial sustainability capable of favoring the systemic generation of innovative businesses and high-quality research, but also to plan guidelines to foster social sustainability in the context of innovation districts and technology parks. Thus, this research is based on the assumption that the demands for housing in locations that constitute territories of knowledge require thinking about new building configurations - also considering the availability of services (facilities) - as well as exploring design approaches and construction technologies that promote typological diversity, inclusion of socially vulnerable populations, different family profiles and urban sustainability within university campuses and technology districts. Within this context, the objective of this research is to identify housing solutions in contexts of knowledge territories and innovation districts, based on the analysis of national and international case studies, also addressing the inclusion of populations in situations of social vulnerability with demands for low-income housing. When analyzing the case studies of housing projects inserted in technological ecosystems, from the point of view of the economic, environmental and social dimensions, it is necessary to discuss the availability of strategies and initiatives that promote not only economic growth, but also social innovation through job opportunities, professionalization and income generation for the permanence of underprivileged individuals and families. Thus, this research will seek the availability of housing typologies - in their paradigmatic dimension regarding innovation in the supply of buildings and/or urban structures - to discuss their urban-sustainable function, in particular for those that are formed in urban fringes associated with university campuses and technological districts, in a current context of knowledge-based society.
