Abstract

This research aims to analyze two South Korean productions, House of Hummingbird (2018), directed by Kim Bora, and The House of Us (2019), directed by Yoon Ga-eun. Through an internal analysis of these works, using tools offered by Sociology of Film, the goal is to investigate the potential relationships between these contemporary films, directed by women, and the women's collectives that have shaped South Korean cinema. To achieve this, in addition to the analysis of the films themselves, we will explore the history of independent female cinema in South Korea, examining the different political contexts in which the country has been situated, and considering the influence of political and socio-historical circumstances on these productions. The collectives under examination are Kaidu Club and Bariteo, founded in the 1970s and 1980s by creators Han Ok-Hee and Kim So-young, respectively, and Byun Young-ju, who emerged in the 1990s.
