Abstract

This project aims to investigate the genealogy of the Aranã people, located in the Middle Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais, within a context of ethnogenesis and ethnic affirmation. Based on the mobilization of two main lineages, "Indigenous" and "Caboclo," the study focuses specifically on the "Caboclo" lineage and examines how these families have used genealogy and collective memories to legitimize their Indigenous identity amidst external challenges such as territorial disputes and invisibility. The project will adopt an ethnographic approach and the genealogical method to explore the dynamics of kinship, contributing to studies on the construction of cultural boundaries in the process of ethnic emergence. This study aims to enhance the understanding of the role of kinship in the reaffirmation of contemporary Indigenous identities.
