Abstract

Crohn's disease (CD) is characterized by intestinal inflammation that affects the lining of the digestive tract. Despite genetic predisposition, CD can develop and become chronic due to interactions with environmental factors. The treatment used is pharmacological, however, there is evidence that sleep and physical activity can be altered in people with CD. However, these studies used questionnaires and self-reports.Objective: To evaluate the association between sleep and physical activity level (NAFVD) with the clinical aspects of people with CD.Methodology: This is a unicentric, cross-sectional study that aims to include patients diagnosed with CD, treated at the inflammatory bowel diseases outpatient clinic of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. Individuals will be screened during a regular doctor visit and asked to participate. Consecutive individuals of both sexes aged 18 to 65 who agree to participate will be included. Individuals who have difficulty walking will be excluded. Clinical aspects will be assessed using the "Crohn's Disease Activity Index" (CDAI) and the "Harvey-Bradshaw Index" (IHB) (Harvey and Bradshaw, 1980), NAFVD (accelerometry), duration (accelerometry) and quality of sleep and sleepiness (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Epworth Sleepiness Scale), health factors and quality of life (Inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire). To assess NAFVD and sleep, subjects will be asked to wear two accelerometers (Actigraph) for 7 consecutive days. NAFVD will be assessed with the accelerometer on the waist and sleep on the wrist. General clinical data will be collected through electronic medical record analysis. The data will be presented in a descriptive manner and the linear association will be evaluated using the Spearman and Pearson tests, depending on the normality of the data. The significance level will be set at 5%. (AU)
