Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a major public health challenge, particularly among historically vulnerable populations such as Indigenous peoples. In Brazil, these populations face inequalities in access to healthcare services, cultural and social barriers, and precarious living conditions that contribute to increased exposure to and severity of STIs. Recent data indicate that the state of Mato Grosso do Sul has the third largest Indigenous population in the country, highlighting the importance of epidemiological studies that address their specific contexts. However, epidemiological analyses aimed at understanding the distribution and determinants of STIs in these settings remain scarce. This project aims to use epidemiological intelligence as a tool to outline the epidemiological profile of reported STI cases among Indigenous peoples in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul between 2013 and 2024, with a focus on promoting health and developing effective strategies for control and prevention. This is a retrospective, ecological, and quantitative study, based on secondary data extracted from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), provided by the division responsible for STIs within the Mato Grosso do Sul State Health Department. Indicators such as age group, sex, place of residence, case evolution, and case fatality rate will be analyzed. Data will be processed using R software and presented through tables, graphs, and maps. The expected outcomes include supporting the development of culturally sensitive public health policies that contribute to reducing health disparities. In addition, educational materials will be produced for state health managers to support decision-making processes and strengthen integrated prevention and care actions based on the principles of One Health.
