Abstract

Introduction: Adequate perioperative management of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery and preoperative risk factors significantly influence the procedures results, therefore, the development of tools and strategies that provide improvements in care are essential to minimize complications.Objective: The primary objective of this study is to assess the incidence of early postoperative complications and possible risk factors. Additionally, the patients' demographic characteristics and cardiovascular procedures epidemiology will be evaluated.Study design: This was an observational and prospective study.Study population: Hospitals with cardiac surgery experience will be invited to participate in the study. Patients undergoing cardiac surgery will be included consecutively during the study period, to be determined later.Inclusion criteria: Adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery requiring postoperative care in the intensive care unit will be included.Exclusion criteria: Exclusive palliative care, advance directive expressing desire for limitation of life support, patients previously included in this study, implant of cardiac implantable electronic device surgery and moribund patient will be excluded.Nature and risks associated with participation: Considering the observational nature of the study, there is no additional risk to participating patients.
