Abstract

Mixed vanadium and molybdenum oxides are materials of great interest for catalytic applications, especially in oxidation reactions due to their ability to generate reactive oxygen species. The combination of these metals enhances the dynamics of vanadium oxidation states, facilitating redox mechanisms and creating a synergy between the metals that makes them superior to their individual oxides. The crystalline structure of MoxVyOz oxides depends on the synthesis method, with hydrothermal and solvothermal processes being the most common. However, these methods present challenges such as long reaction times and the use of solvents, which contradict the principles of green chemistry. The mechanochemical method emerges as a sustainable alternative, utilizing mechanical energy to promote reactions without solvents or high temperatures. This method can offer advantages for material properties, such as increased surface area, potentially improving catalytic performance. The project proposes the mechanochemical synthesis of mixed MoxVyOz oxides, optimizing parameters such as time, ball size and number, as well as collision frequency. It will also investigate the synthesis from MoO3 and V2O5, as well as precursor salts VOSO4·xH2O and (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O.
