Abstract

There has been a concerning increase in the epidemiological burden of cancer globally, attributed in part to population aging and carcinogenic risk factors exposure. There is a worldwide change in the incidence pattern of neoplasms, with a decrease in those related to tobacco and an increase in those related to a sedentary lifestyle and obesity, especially in the young adult population (between 20 and 49 years old). This trend can change health intervention measures at a national and regional level, highlighting the importance of a thorough clinical-epidemiological characterization of cancers among young adults. This study aims to retrospectively evaluate the cohort of cancers of patients aged 20 to 49 who were diagnosed with cancer at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo (HC-FMRP-USP). Finally, this study may contribute to improve effective interventions regarding preventive measures.
