Abstract

This research project consists of an investigation into Walter Benjamin's reading and interpretation of Charles Fourier's work, in order to understand the place that Fourier plays in Benjamin's thinking. Thus, based on Das Passagen-Werk - especially notebook W, dedicated to Fourier and his school - and other works in which the French philosopher is mentioned by Benjamin - such as the theses On the Concept of History - the aim is to present a summary (and with the help of the bibliography already produced on the authors) of how themes common to both authors - namely anthropological materialism, political action and the relationship between man and nature - are developed in Benjamin's philosophy and to what extent it is possible to establish a dialogue between the two philosophers. Thus, this project seeks to systematise, through a bibliographical review, the role that Fourier plays in Benjamin's thinking - whether in his philosophy of history or in his work on the Paris passages - contributing to the bibliographical production on the subject, which is unfortunately limited, mainly in Portuguese.
