Abstract The goal of the Sr cavity projects is to pave the way for the implementation of cavity QED for the purpose of applications in powerful new quantum sensor types. The project involves very complex experimental setups requiring in-depth knowledge in areas asdiverse as electronics, Gaussian optics and laser physics, mechanics and technical design, vacuumscience and cryogenics, computer control of experimental sequences and locking technology, theoretical modelling, metrology and gravimetry. The theme of the project, which lies at the intersection of the areas of atomic optics, Bose-Einstein condensation, cavity quantum electrodynamics and the study of the interaction of light with matter in general, adds to the interdisciplinary character of our research. This diversity represents a great opportunity for scientific initiation students to acquire a wide spectrum of knowledge and skills. | |
