Abstract Metastable beta Ti alloys can exhibit beta phase retention (BCC structure) after rapid cooling from high temperatures. Beta phase has low mechanical strength, which can be increased by aging heat treatments, promoting the precipitation of the alpha phase (hexagonal structure) in a beta phase matrix. Associated with beta phase retention, omega phase precipitation occurs, which embrittles the material and can be avoided by adding Sn or Zr. These elements can be incorporated via additive manufacturing, where metal powders are deposited on a surface, layer by layer, and sintered or melted by means of a localized heat source, usually a laser beam, which moves according to a digital file. This technique allows composition variation in a single process. This work aims to produce samples of the Ti-35Nb-6Ta alloy (wt.%) with additions of Sn, Zr and both, using laser powder bed fusion, and to investigate the precipitation and dissolution of phases after heat treatments.
